2001 Brigham Young University Music Technology Workshop Descriptions
- The 2001 Brigham Young University Jazz Festival was held on March 10, 2001 in Provo, Utah. Nearly 500 high school musicians attended the festival with 28 high school
big-bands and one middle school big-band performing were all adjudicated in a concert presentation, a sight-reading session and instrumental music, improvisation
and music technology clinics. I presented seven hours of computer music technology workshops throughout the day with different clinics each hour.
Major music technology clinic presentations that I presented included notation projects, ear training, theory, sequencing, transcribing, automatic accompaniment generating software
application and more. The big new addition at this year's festival that I incorporated were two digital/audio recording workshops in which students brought their instruments and
we produced their first digital demo recording sessions with a CD recording given to each participating student. Featured recording equipment were the
Superscope PAC 770 Public Address/Mixer, Superscope CDR-500 CD Burner and a Marantz Digital Recorder PMD-680. The recording sessions were extremely well received
and plans are already being planned for the 2002 Brigham Young University Jazz Festival next March, 2002. Many thanks to Superscope for making this recording
equipment available for this prestigious high school jazz festival at Brigham Young University.
