Second Grading Period - Let's Have A Great Start:

Let's Fix Whatever Is Missing Now Instead of in December!

Severarl important points to emphasize in this, the eleventh 2008 fall semester newsletter.

1. Although we are only into the second week of the grading period..... There are sufficient grades to assess your child's progress! With fall break this Thursday through Sunday, it would be a perfect time to jump start your child's grades for second grading period with whatever is missing plus earn extra-credit. All of Dr. Data's courseware are actually on-line for 24/7 for use in completing any and/or all missing class assignments and projects at home, public library, parent's work place, relative's neighbor's, friend's computers or even on vacation away from home.  But Dr. Data is also available for help every Monday through Friday between 2:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this "Golden" opportunity to "jump start" the second grading period with ample time to do the makeup work without pressure. 2. Latest Curriculum Developments in 7th & 8th Grade Computer Classes
   
   
• 7th grade "Computer Literacy and Beyond!" URL is:  http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Curriculum_Preview88.html and the class as of today, started the third unit of instruction, Database Management.with the President's Database which be done on-line at http://www.adlineagency.com/kuzmich. Use the following account information and you have access to all of the database assignments that can be done at home. You do not have to have Clarisworks or Appleworks on your home computer in order to do the assignments on your home computer. Just use the on-line software at http://www.adlineagency.com/kuzmich.

  Account Name: john (be sure lower case for j in John)
  Password: drdata (be sure it is lower case)

  Go to "Layout" to find specific database file to work on. This on-line database works just like Clarisworks or Appleworks on our PC lab computers. We will be working on Database Management:for 2.5 weeks, October to early November for first semester and February to March for second semester classes.   Second Week of PowerPoint Presentations: Two Projects as a Business Prospectus and One On-Line Test!

  PowerPoint presentation can help you read your customers. Before designing the PowerPoint presentation, you must identify what contents that will go on each slide.

1. First Major PowerPoint Presentation is worth 200 points: Objectives Must contain the following ingredients with five or sx slides.
   
   
   • Must cover your business plan as outlined from http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/business/Business_Plan_Template.html with a title slide with logo and a separate slide for each bullet below.
   • Description of your business in terms of products or services?
   • Targeted Market and Customers in terms of describing your customer profile and why they want or need your product or service.
   • Marketing Strategy in terms of describing your overall marketing strategy
   • Competitive Advantage/Pricing Power by explaining the unique qualities or circumstances concerning your product or service that will enable you to maintain profitable pricing.
   • Closing slide summarizing your business.
2. Create a second 200-point PowerPoint slide show must incorporate all aspects of the materials pertinent to your business and be at least 7 slides in length Objectives: Must contain the following ingredients.
   • Logo
   • Important to use different artwork in this slide show so that it looks different from the first one.
   • Business card
   • Flyer
   • Three fold brochure
   • Emphasize how you are going promote your sales from the first slide show.
3. For the on-line assessment test for 100 points. go to: http://www.kuzmich.com/Quiz/PowerPoint/Final_PowerPoint2.html. Suggest you take this test after you have completed the two PowerPoint assignments. You can take the test as many times as necessary to pass the test. The web link has the grading expectations well documented.

   Business Financial PowerPoint Rubrics: 200 Points Per Slide Show for Second Week

   Total of 400 points to be awarded for each of the two PowerPoint slide shows submitted correctly by Friday of week 10 plus 100 points for the pre-and-post PowerePoint on-line tests. Here is how the first spreadsheet should be constructed in the rubric below. The second PowerPoint has all ingredients requested in the on-line rubric below as you need to print out for credit. Note: must print-out each slide show for credit!

3. Need photos and completion of Final CSAP project for the 7th grade word processing unit, Korean Pen pal letter, which was due this Friday, October 10th. It will be mailed in a week. For thus who have not submitted their final copy, Dr. Data will still accept them so he can include them to the students in Souel, Korea. It is a 400-point two-part pen pal letter assignment to a Korean student in Seoul, Korea which was due in either October 3, 2008 with the preliminary one-page draft and October 10, 2008 with the final copy of two pages double spaced type. Final copy must be typed! See separate hand-out dealing with Penpal instructions. Penpal instructions. All students were given the same work sheet two weeks ago. Students can work on this final project at home or in class or both. That's why the thumb drives are so important making it possible to work seamlessly with hesitation whenever they have time to work on this final project. Note: preliminary draft can be either handwritten or typed but the final version of October 10th has to be typed two pages, double spaced. Suggest parents checking the Korean Penal for typos, sentence syntax, grammar and the use of topic sentences in each paragraph. This is CSAP quality of the first order! Good luck with your child achieving word processing and CSAP expertise! Dr. Data will give his 7th grade classes some time on Tuesday to work especially on their pen pal letters and on Friday as well.
   
   
4. Success Guaranteed in Dr. Data's 7th & 8th Grade Computer Classes if Students/Parents Follow These Guidelines! When parents are engaged with their child's school work, success is very attainable. The 16 points outlined on this web site make parent-student-teacher interaction seamless and easier for all student success to be achieved. Nobody should be failing Dr. Data's classes if these points are being followed! If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to contact Dr. Data ASAP, even over Fall Break.
