Monday, The Entire Week: Four Single Page Flyers and Four Three-fold Brochures for 600 or 12 points.

Friday typing tests in All The Right type with tests 2F and 3A.

Learning objective is to make three 8 1/2 X 11 flyers and three three-fold brochure this week in either Microsoft Word (200 points each) or Microsoft Publisher (100 points each). See rubrics below for content requirements.

The major difference between designing a business card and flyers amd three-fold brochures are:

    1. You have a lot more room to incorporate graphics and logos in the 8 1/2" X 11" flyer.
    2. You need to specifically cover your business in more depth based on your original business plan.
      • Who?
      • What?
      • When?
      • Where?
      • Why?:

Here's how to make a flyer and/or three-fold business card in Microsoft Word for 200 points each in Microsoft Word and Publisher (100 total points) as defined in the ruberic below. For a template, go to: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/business/FLYER_Template.html and then save it to your computer. Then open it in Microsoft Word and you can modify it for your use.

Samples of tri-folder brochures and flyers. On the cardlock (rackcards) vending brochure it is shown in spreads. So the first page is the back and the front then the second page shows the inside of the brochure.

    Business Flyier Ruberic:

Creatively and carefully design a flyer by outlining what you want on the flyer from the following below nfor Microsoft Publisher (Word is twic as much).

    1. Make a fancy title: 10 points
    2. Content in outline format: Who, What, When, Where and Why. 50 points
    3. Use fancy colors and especially fancy fonts: 10 points
    4. Design and incorporate a larger larger business logo since you have an entire 8.5" X 11" page: 20 points
    5. Select landscape or portrait page format: 10 points. Doesn't always have to be in portrait (vertical) page format.
    6. Total 100 points to be awarded if done in Microsoft Publisher and 200 points if done in Microsoft Word.

Instructions for Designing a Three-fold Brochure in Microsoft Word

Here are some ideas about doing a three-fold brochures in Microsoft Word.
    1. Go to File pull-down menu and select page setup and select landscape.  Make the outside margins narrower than the defaults found in Word which as rather wide, about 3/8" of an inch as you are going to need as much space for layout purposes.
    2. Go to the Tools pull-down menu and select Columns and select three columns.  There, also select about 3/8" of an inch margin between columns because you don't want wide margins between columns.
    3. I don't know exactly how to change columns with text.  Namely, how to start typing in the second or third columns? Will offer the student that first informs Dr. Data how to do it with a "Floating A."

Strongly suggest that you use the following brochure template for easier construction of a three-fold brochure at: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/business/Brochure_Template.pdf. Although the template will appear, you really have to go to Microsoft Word to access it to use it as a template. Here's how: go to Microsoft Office and go to "New file" and then to files "On Your Computer," then go to "Publications" for a brochure template. Open up and it is ready to go for you to insert your business information.
