Dear Carmody 7th Grade Elective computer Class Parents and Students:
  1. Third week of grades for the 2nd grading period are now on on-line. Check out your student's grades at: <http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Grades.html>.

Grades may be dropping since I've notice some students getting slower in finishing their assignments. To counteract this annual fall mid-semester slump, I have initiated a rather effective way to keep students on-task almost painlessly with my "Student Behavior Modification" plan consisting of two parts which will quickly get the attention of the students and their parents immediately! If your child is afflicted, please don't panic but rather let me shape them up for you. What's novel about the plan is that seven Carmody faculty members have volunteered to conduct time-out sessions in their own classes whenever and any time any of my students needs isolation in which to work on alternative computer/CSAP related assignments. This "buddy"system is a rather powerful vehicle of allowing me to teach without any distractions in my class and without ever having to send students to the office. Please read the following and you will better understand the approached used to avoid the annual fall mid-semester slump.

Behavior Modification Assignment:
Parts I & II

(You volunteered for it!)

Part I:

  1. A disruptive student is defined as one who inhibits the classroom instruction. If after one reminder and a discussion with Dr. Data, your behavior in class today has not improved, you will complete a "Think Sheet." You will also be assigned to after school “Mop Squad” detention.
Part II:
  1. If you continue to be disruptive, you will complete the following alternative class assignment consisting of three paragraphs all with topic sentences and correct spelling and grammar.
  2. You are to read the enclosed computer article. Then you will write three paragraphs with paper and pencil. If not done neatly, you will do it again. If necessary, you will be asked to go to classroom to do this assignment in which the teacher of that classroom will monitor your behavior.
  3. Paragraph one: you are to write ten sentences summarizing the contents of the article all within the first paragraph.
  4. Second paragraph: you will write three or more sentences about the three most important ideas that you learned from the article.
  5. Third paragraph: who would you recommend this article to? Teacher, Parent, Business person, student, etc.? Give two reasons why?

You are expected to complete parts I and II and understand why class disturbances are not to be tolerated and hopefully the alternative class activity of computer technology reading and writing helps you understand more about computers. If you do not finish this assignment within the present class period, it will be done for homework. A parent signature is required for both parts I and II. Because your classroom behavior is not conducive for instruction, you need to focus your efforts on this alternative assignment. In addition to this assignment, you are still expected to complete the daily assignment that was given in class today.

2. Korean Pen Pal Status: All letters are being mailed this weekend to Seoul, Korea. If your child missed my deadlines, you can mail them for the child to:

Mr. Young Hun SHIN
Pen Pal Coordinator
Kweang-Ju P.O. Box 160
Seoul. Korea 501-600

Estimated cost for overseas air-mail postage is $1.00 an oz.

3. Ordered Typing Programs have been received and your child should have received their software who ordered the software.

4. Special Student Rewards. Students are enthusiastic for Klik & Play. If students do well in class this coming week, students will be playing other student's games next Friday. Klik & Play is a great way to learn to create things on a computer. Perhaps the best news is Carmody students are allowed by manufacturer to download the software for free by at a brand-new URL by going to: http://www.clickteam.com/English/ourdownloads.php so your child can creatively practice at home beginning today! The Carmody Middle School Whiz Chips Club also sponsors a computer gaming contest in December and in May with a computer creating game contest. Some of your children might enjoy participating in the intensive competition while they learn and master the art of computer gaming. Believe me, the students are very competitive on how they make and play computer games.

Have a great weekend! My latest surprise is that my 25 year old daughter in Atlanta is getting on January 15th and you guess it, I'm in charge of the entire wedding. Since she gave me only 90 days notice, I really need referrals for caters, florists, bands, invitations, etc. as this is a full-time job and since this is my only daughter, I only get one opportunity to host it correctly. And hopefully, I will be successful!!!!

Hope this information is helpful.

Till next time,

Dr. Data
