Dear Carmody 7th & 8th Grade Elective Computer Class Students and Parents.

1. End of the Second Grading Period: Friday, November 3, 2006!!!! Strongly suggest you check the Carmody Portal for the latest assessment of your child's assignments and tests. The good news is that they can still make up assignments at home and at school. Assignments are on-line as follows:

Important: you do not have to have Clarisworks or Appleworks on your home computer in order to do the assignments on your home computer.

2. Korean Pen Pal letters are being mailed this Saturday so if your child wants to submit photos and other light memorabilia with their pen pal letter, please see that these enclosures are submitted to Dr. Data ASAP.On Friday, progress reports will be given out based on all work within this 2nd grading period. Your child will still have two weeks after this week to makeup all missing work. Please sign the progress report and if your child returns it by Friday, November 3rd, 100 points will be rendered to your child's electronic grades. Hope the Carmory Parent Portal has been helpful in keeping you up-to-date about your child's progress.
3. Parents are really needed in Dr. Data's class on a regular basis!! Believe it or not, the best school districts in the USAA are not found in the wealthy suburbia schools such as in Beverly Hills, California, Winnetka, Illinois, Short Hills, New Jersey;, etc., but in the U.S. Military Schools throughout the USA. Why? Parents there are required to assist their children's teachers regularly or they get a military court marshal. 60 Minutes TV show some 5 or 6 years ago did a feature story on the U.S. Military Schools on USA military through the country and found that they consistently had the highest ACT and SAT college qualifying tests in the entire nation. What's important here is that military families abundantly live in sub-standard on military bases just to enroll their children in the military base school. With a dozen or more parents regularly assigned in the class room on a daily basis, students get more quality instruction than any private or public school in country. Money is not the reason either. So if there are any parents are ever available to assist Dr. Data with any of the following units of instruction below, please volunteer. Below is the 7th grade curriculum.
   • Keyboarding Lessons with Alpha Smarts:3 weeks, August to early September for first semester and January for second semester.
     
   • Word Processing: 4 weeks, September to early October for first semester and January to February for second semester classes.
     
   • Database Management: 2 weeks, October to early November for first semester and February to March for second semester classes.
     

   • Spreadsheets: 1.5 weeks, November for first semester and April for second semester classes.
     
   • Internet Search Engines: 2 weeks, November to December for first semester and April for second semester classes.
      
   • PowerPoint Multimedia Slideshow Presentations: 2 to 4 days, December for first semester and May for second semester classes.
     
   • Newsletters and Web Pages, 3 to 5 days, November for first semester and April
   for second semester classes. 
   
   
   • Drawing and Painting: 2 weeks, December for first semester and April for second semester classes.
      
   • Computer Music: 1 week, December for first semester and May for second semester classes.
      
   • Designing Computer Games with Animations & Sound Effects: 2 weeks, December for first semester and May for second semester classes.
     
   • Individual Unit Final Projects! (nine of them), December for first semester and May for second semester classes.
     

   • Final Two Weeks Syllabus: Creativity With Graphics! Choose various projects with Microsoft Publisher, Band In-A-Box, Clarisworks, and Klik & Play

4. Parents Who Need To Learn Computers and with no charges! Dr. Data cordially invites all parents to participate in daily classes along with their children to learn PowerPoint, Database Management, spreadsheets, Internet Search engines, etc. and all for free on a daily basis. Just look at the curriculum calendar above for which weeks for each unit above. Dr. Data really wants to parents to learn with their children in class if parents can schedule themselves. Come one, come all, you are all warmly invited!!
Special 7th Extra-Credit Assignments: For Those Students Looking To Accelerate!!! See Dr. Data for the following database assignments. Extra -credit assignments: Scrabble a photo of Dr. Data into order for 25 points. Simply print it out and submit to Dr. Data, President's Worksheet #2 , Denver Nugget Player Background, Birds, Zoos of the World, Denver Broncos Statistics , and Denver Nugget Statistics . Each extra-credit assignment completed is worth 25 extra-credit points. 500 points will be awarded to any student who can develop a good clue sheet for the Denver Nugget Player Background, Birds and Zoos of the World.
6. 8th grade curriculum is focused on doing newsletters this week and HTML next week. For extra-credit assignments, have your child see Dr. Data for what kinds of Microsoft Publisher newsletters they can do for extra-credit.

7. Unfortunately, this web site has not been accessible the past three weeks in school but today it appears it is working normally! It represents 10 years of dedication to Dr. Data's computer classes.
