Dear Carmody Middle School Elective 8th Grade Parents and Students:

  1. The 1st grading period is over as of tomorrow. But because the PC computer lab has been without many essential services for both students and Dr. Data:
  2. Dr. Data is going to offer your child the weekend to makeup all missing assignments by Monday, 3 p.m. Since there are also club meetings on Monday after school, there is an activity bus on at 3 p.m. for those who want to stay after school on Monday to really finish up their assignments and tests. Namely, your child can submit all missing assignments to him on Monday and they will be updated on the computer. The biggest problem has been that Dr. Data's notebook wireless system doesn't always save correctly to the Internet grading site. Consequently, there could inadvertently be some missing grades for your child even at this late date even though they have been added to his "wireless" notebook computer. Therefore, the Carmody Parent Portal should alert both parents and students to any and all missing assignments/tests that have completed. And then those missing grades could still be submitted to the district before the Tuesday morning grade submission deadline. Please utilize the Carmody Parent Portal at https://campus.jeffco.k12.co.us/campus/portal/jeffco_IC.jsp to know if all assignments are accurately recorded and that your child is keeping up with Dr. Data's assignments and tests.

Imnportant reminder: all missing assignments are web-based and can be downloaded 24/7 since they have no relationship with the PC Lab. situation. Including this evening and this weekend.

  3. An "M" grade means the student has not submitted it to Dr. Data, but it can be resubmitted for full credit. But note, a "M" is recorded as a zero until it is changed, some student grades could have gone down this week because the "M" has been flagged into the grading system since it is the end of the grading period. But students still have till Monday, October 2nd to 3 p.m. to rectify this situation!!! Take advantage of it.
  4. In order to start off the second grading period better, all of Dr. Data's classes will be meeting in the Mac lab in the library on Monday until further notice until the PC lab has been completed rewired and reconfigured. This may take a week or longer. But students will be able to save all of their work to their own server folders and be able to print as well as have access to the Internet for all web-based assignments. The only bad news is that Dr. Data will still have to use his notebook "wireless" system for entering grades until he gets back into the PC lab permanently. It will indeed be a sunny day for Dr. Data when he gets back to the updated PC lab. Which will also have four refurbished Pentium IV computers and five Pentium III computers to replace our aging Pentium II computers that are over ten years old.

  5. Important Special Offer is Over on Friday but if you contact Dr. Data by e-mail ASAP, I will still accept applications for "All the Right Type" software on Monday, October 2, 2006. Dr. Data believes it may be important for your child to have access to Carmody's 7th and 8th grade classes keyboarding software application for home use. Why? Dr. Data would like his students to double and/or triple the speed of their present typing speed of words per minute by the end of the semester. If so, your child be a super typist forever. Unfortunately, some students will not practice beyond class time and consequently, their speeds do not change much. But he knows it is possible to accomplish this double or triple speed improvement, especially if coordinate with typing practice at home between now and the end of school. It would also be possible for others in your family to benefit from this instructional CD-ROM. Especially if you have younger children who could also be exposed to it. Carmody Middle School has a site license for the software application, "All the Right Type," for use in our school PC computer lab. This is a highly effective ‘learn to keyboard” program. Ingenuity Works, the publisher of All the Right Type, has a special arrangement that enables students and parents to purchase a home version of this program for a very reasonable reduced price. You will receive a flyer on Monday via your child concerning this special pricing, but I have also enclosed the introduction letter and form for you to complete. In order to participate, you need to fill out the attached Student Bulk Order Form and returning it to me accompanied by a check in the amount of $21.00 (per program) by Friday, September 29, 2006 (extended to Monday, October 2, 2006).. Be sure to include your child's name on the check. The check should be addressed to: Carmody Middle School. No cash please. These charges include:

Important: the order will be cancelled unless a minimum of 10 orders are placed.

If you would like to investigate more about this product, ask your child about this software application as there are using it class daily as well as visit the product's web site for more details at: http://www.ingenuityworks.com/iworks/main/products/all_the_right_type_3/

Hope this information is helpful. This is the third year that we have offered this product to Carmody parents through our site license relationship and the results are amazing for students who practice daily at home. For example for one student who had a lot of difficulty in learning how to type, that child in one semester went from one word per minute to 18 words a minute. Usually, students who practice at home daily will easily double or triple their present typing speed by the end of the semester. And having the same program at home that we use in school is very helpful. An order form will be given to your child tomorrow. Deadline for ordering the software has been extended to Monday, October 2, 2006. You can also download the forms yourself, please go to: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/ATRT_Letter.html and return to Dr. Data ASAP.Hope this information is helpful and looking forward to the second grading period. For a curriculum preview of what's coming, go to: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Curriculum_Preview.html#August for 7th grade and http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/business/Lesson_Plans.html for 8th grade.

Till next time. In the meantime, have a great weekend.

Thank you.

Till next time,

Dr. Data
