Dear Carmody 7th & 8th Dr. Data Computer Class Parents and Students:
- This week is dedicated to Final exams in every class at Carmody. Dr. Data has decided to give a practical hands-on exam on Thursday, May 22nd covering the most important ingredients for both his 7th & 8th grade computer classes. Preparation days are on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week plus use Friday, May 23rd as a makeup day for students who miss the exam on Thursday, May 22, 2008.
7th Grade
- Students will create a PowerPoint presentation of what they have learned the most in this class. With the following ingredients. three-slides, each slide needs to 1) title, 2) specific text about why and 3) artwork to support their reasons that can be taken from the Internet or the software library.. The following rubric will be used: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Scorecard_PowerPoint_Rubric.pdf
8th Grade:
- Design a two-page web page for Carmody Middle School by incorporating the following main technical ingredients for each web page as follows in addition to good layout appearances. Sample page could be modeled from Carmody's web site as outlined below (students could copy artwork, text, etc.) from the URL: http://sc.jeffco.k12.co.us/education/school/school.php?sectionid=280
-
- Each web page must have 1 photo (either digital or scanned photo or downloaded from the Internet).
- Each web page needs at least one article about either you, your friends, your hobbies/interests, your business interests and your favorite things.
- Each web page needs at least two fancy titles by using WordArt.
- Each web page needs a fancy, colored background color
- All web pages must be linked to each other.
- Each web page needs to have two links to other web pages outside of your web site.
- Rubric for this two-page web site: go to: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Web_Rubric.pdf for a total of 150 points earned per page.
- What percentage of grade should I used? For example, make it worth a triple grade (300 points instead of the usual 100) or higher?
Here is a plan for implementation:
- Monday, May 19th, show and explain the rubric to the classes three days before the exam without giving them the topic.
- On Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20th and May 21st, have them practice two days before the test on any topic(s) of their choice.
- On Thursday, May 21st, give them the actual exam.
- Use Friday, May 22nd as a makeup day for those students absent on Thursday, May 21st.
Hope this helps as to get near the end of the third grading period and the semester!
Dr. Data
