Final Grading Period - Let's Have A Great Start:

Let's Fix Whatever Is Missing Now & Before Spring Break!

Several important points to emphasize in this, the tenth 2009 winter semester newsletter.

Although we are only into the second week of the fourth and final grading period..... There are sufficient grades to assess your child's progress! With spring break beginning next weekend, it would be a perfect time to motivate your child's grades for fourth grading period with whatever is missing plus earn extra-credit. All of Dr. Data's courseware are actually on-line for 24/7 for use in completing any and/or all missing class assignments and projects at home, public library, parent's work place, relative's neighbor's, friend's computers or even on vacation away from home. But Dr. Data is also available for help every Monday through Friday between 2:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this "Golden" opportunity to "jump start" the second grading period with ample time to do the makeup work without pressure. Latest Curriculum Developments in 7th & 8th Grade Computer Classes
- 7th grade "Computer Literacy and Beyond!" URL is: http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Curriculum_Preview88.html and the class as of today, started the third unit of instruction, Database Management.this week and start on the fourth assignment, Rivers of the World database, which be done on-line at http://www.adlineagency.com/kuzmich. Use the following account information and you have access to all of the database assignments that can be done at home. You do not have to have Clarisworks or Appleworks on your home computer in order to do the assignments on your home computer. Just use the on-line software at http://www.adlineagency.com/kuzmich.
  Account Name: john (be sure lower case for j in John)
  Password: drdata (be sure it is lower case)
  Go to "Layout" to find specific database file to work on. This on-line database works just like Clarisworks or Appleworks on our PC lab computers. We will be working on Database Management:for 2.5 weeks, October to early November for first semester and February to March for second semester classes. The 8th grade class is currently on Week 10, second half of Week 10.
  Second Week of Spreadsheet Unit With Three Projects and Six Tutorials Plus On-Line Test!
  
  This next week, March 23rd, we will be working in Week 9 of the curriculum covering the second week of the Spreadsheet instruction. The soften the instruction, there are six tutorials to go through before doing the three Spreadsheet projects by Friday, March 27, 2009.
  
  Six Tutorials for Learning to Build Excel Spreadsheets and Charts at:

  Earn 100 points each for completing the six on-line tutorials above for a total of 600 points
  
  Learning Objective: construct a spreadsheet for each tutorial studied by demonstrating three concepts that you have learned from each tutorial. Go to http://www.kuzmich.com/carmody/Excel_tutorial.html and begin your tutorials. By the end of the six tutorials, you will have learned 18 new concepts and created six small spreadsheets.
  Three Business Financial Spreadsheet Rubrics: 100 Points each.
  (Due on Friday)
  Creatively and carefully design a document following the outline in each template posted above. flyer by outlining what you want on the flyer from the following below.
  
  Learning objective: to create three spreadsheets for your business based on the following criteria:
  
  Need a company title with company logo for 10 points.
  - Need have what products or services are being sold. Include sale's price and approximate number of items or services sold. 20 points. Need to display the data in a chart of your choice.
  - Need expenses ( list a minimum of four ). This should include a cost per sale and estimated number of items or services sold. 20 points
  - Titles: Needs to be bold, underlined and capitalized. Normal text should be 10 point type size. Titles should be 14 point type side. Times Roman is the type face used in your spreadsheet. 10 points
  - All cells in the spreadsheet must have gird lines and have formulas wherever answer or totals are required as in the first spreadsheet.
  - 50 extra-credit points will be offered to those that include charts in their spreadsheets.
  Total 100 points plus extra-credit if earned to be awarded for each of the two spreadsheets submitted correctly by Friday of week 9.. Here is how the first spreadsheet should appear. The second spreadsheet has all formulas displayed as you need to print out for credit.
Success Guaranteed in Dr. Data's 7th & 8th Grade Computer Classes if Students/Parents Follow These Guidelines! When parents are engaged with their child's school work, success is very attainable. The 16 points outlined on this web site make parent-student-teacher interaction seamless and easier for all student success to be achieved. Nobody should be failing Dr. Data's classes if these points are being followed! If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to contact Dr. Data ASAP, even over Spring Break.
