Multimedia Alternatives to PowerPoint Slide Shows
Follow-up to the School Band & Orchestra Article entitled:
"Multimedia Authoring Applications: Programming by Non-Programmers (You)!"
April, 2005 issue
"Currently Under Construction"
Meet The Competition of outstanding multimedia authoring applications and observe comparisons with them and original PowerPoint presentations. Note: examples below may be one of two primary ways: 1) HTML presentations and/or 2) original presentations made within the competitors software applications. HTML presentations can be viewed in your favorite web browser by just putting in the complete URL address and it will run.The web based slides do not have any interaction, so if the presentation has buttons on, or actions for mouse or keyboard clicks, they will be lost in the publish. Also, any paths and animation will be lost, they are only static. But for original presentations, you must download a trial version of that product and then download the original data file via FTP per instructions below. You will not be disappointed for your efforts to view the original rendition with more presentation capabilities than the original Power Point. The features or enhancements presentation version will be noted accordingly. All presentations below were made from the original PowerPoint slide show as identified by its on-line URL address listed below. The advantage of working within the original application is that you also edit the files to see how flexible and powerful these applications are.
A third alternative will be to see the full capabilities of each multimedia authoring application by having links to their web site where their best demonstrations will be waiting for your viewing which will go far beyond PowerPoint capabilities. Does not require any product download to view.
There is yet a fourth way to view the manufacturer's original data files on this web site without their download trial version demo. Simply go to: http://www.kuzmich.com/2003AS~1.exe and the .EXE can either be saved and/or opened up and the entire presentation is there with no need for the manufacturer's player or their application installed. In this way, there are no limitations at all with the web-posted file except you can't edit the file.
Disclaimer: my on-line PPT slide shows basically do not utilize audio commentary, movies or photos and are just prompts for the important things I do and say with the audience during a clinic. Consequently, the demonstrations in the multimedia authoring applications are rather imitative and restrictive. So, additional links will be provided to more fully exhibit each product's capabilities far beyond PowerPoint so you can appreciate what they can really can do. Therefore, you can appreciate the PowerPoint standard as well as the next generation of multimedia capabilities that are available with the products reviewed in the music technology column of the April, 2005 issue of School Band & Orchestra magazine. Strongly encourage you to download their free trial version to not only view their stunning demonstration presentations from this web site but to create your very own presentations in minutes.
Recommend using Microsoft Explorer as your web browser when viewing PowerPoint slide shows because of its proprietary relationship. Other browsers such as Netscape's Navigator and Mozilla's FireFox may also work but Microsoft Explorer definitely will work all the time!
