Learn about the software application most appropriate for the general
music teacher in successfully implementing music technology into the
classroom for a particular teaching situation. Basic skills in music
notation, MIDI sequencing, and electronic keyboards in K-12 education are
taught. Participants explore many ways to incorporate these tools into the
individual's curriculum. The course is taught in a hands-on environment.
Satisfactory participation in class activities and successful completion
of several projects is required. Students produce a final project that
customizes their choice of available software applications with a detailed
lesson plan that emphasizes coverage of three MENC National Teaching
Standards.

Courseware for educators deals with the topics of designing and
implementing/posting web pages for music
educators. The course contents provide insights as to what ingredients can
make a web page more dynamic. The
courseware also goes much further because it
covers two areas of web page development specifically for educators: the
basics of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) construction via HTML Editors
and GUI (Graphical User Interface) applications that allows educators to
create web pages via an interface. It is possible to expand the basics of
web pages with the fundamentals of blogging and podcasting. Although the
courseware is predominantly
focused for web apps specifically designed for music educators, educators
outside of music can find the contents
of this course very appropriate because multimedia web applications are
pertinent for all web-oriented educators.

Band-in-a-Box by PG Music (www.pgmusic.com)
is an intelligent automatic accompaniment program for the multimedia
computer. Hear and play along to many song ideas
and go from "nothing" to "something" in a very short
period of time. It's an on-call band, ready to make music wherever. It is
also a powerful and native music composition tool. The program lends
itself to experimentation, exploration, and rapid development of musical
ideas with near-instantaneous feedback. Class focuses on music education
tools and attributes of the application particularly important for
educators and their students.
