Unit leader's direction

     the unit leader is responsible for administering the Welfare Program

  • The welfare committee is under the Bishop/Branch Presidents direction, his principal input comes from the counselors and the inspiration and sensitivities exhibited by the committee members.

Membership

     who gets the work going?

  • The committee consists of the Bishopric, Relief Society president, the High Priest Group leader and the Elders Quorum President

  • Additional members, at the Unit leaders request, can be the Mission leader, Young Men's president and Employment specialist

Unemployment and Underemployment

     what are we looking for?

  • Unemployment is the lack of any income from time expended at a job, trade or business.

  • Under employment is income derived from a position or responsibility below one's capacity or capability.
  • Over employment is seeking income beyond that which is necessary for sustaining a family
  • Review some conditions that may exist in your unit; page here .

Operation and feedback   

     how is the unit structured for Welfare issues?

  • The welfare function involves

    • Identification
    • Home and visiting teaching
    • Reporting and assignments via PEC Welfare Committee
    • Sharing the Unit's talents, resources and encouragement with those in need
  • Unit Welfare committee is the principal functional to assist members with temporal needs.

Employment specialist  

     a specifically trained member of the Unit  

  • The counselor over welfare   OR

  • Specific called and trained individual
  • Participation in the PEC meeting at the invitation of the Bishop

Regional resources   

     the Church provides significant resources

  • The Church support for employment has been increased by a factor of 10 since 2001

  • Regional Employment center training for both trade, career and professional candidates

Unit leaders support  

     some elements of the  program are the Bishop/Branch President's alone

  • The unit leader receives inspiration through his calling for Welfare issues and leadership

  • Private 'One on One' meetings with the head of the family 
  • Assignments, responsibilities and support
  • Food orders and/or funds as determined by the Bishop or Branch President with access to church resources and Fast offering funds.
